Step One: Congratulate Yourself!

Step 1.1: The first step in this final section is to spend a moment congratulating yourself on making it all the way to the end of the Web Design Dashboard!

If you followed every icon and completed all the steps then you'll have finished creating your web site complete with a graphic header, product shot and a killer sales letter that'll sell your products or services like crazy!

You'll have a domain name selected, a hosting account set up and you should have just finished FTP'ing your pages to your server.

So now it's time to SHOW OFF YOUR SITE so let's get ready to PROMOTE, PROMOTE, PROMOTE.

To get started, let's walk through taking a screen capture of your page so you can upload it to the Web Design Dashboard promo zone.

Step 1.1: Open Internet Explorer or Firefox and either enter the URL of your web site, OR select the webpage.html file from your hard drive.

Step 1.2: When you've got the page open you want to look for the PrtScn button on your keyboard.

When you find the button, hold it down for a few seconds. You may see the screen flicker slightly or blink once. That's when you know the screen cap has been taken.

Step 1.3: Open Photoshop Elements

Step 1.4: Go to the MENU BAR then click FILE > NEW > IMAGE FROM CLIPBOARD

If you've held down the PrtScn button long enough then you've got the screen capture saved on your CLIPBOARD you're going to see the new image dimensions that will be equal to the resolution of your computer monitor.

For example, my monitor resolution is 1024 x 768 so when I click NEW > IMAGE FROM CLIPBOARD, the dimensions are the same.

Now that you've taken the screen capture and you've clicked CREATE NEW IMAGE FROM CLIPBOARD, it's time to RESIZE your screen capture and CROP it so it can be uploaded.

The maximum size you want your screen capture to be is 300 x 300 pixels in size.

Tips on Taking Good Screen Captures

If you're using the "PrtScrn" button on your keyboard, you're going to have to CROP off everything you don't want in your screen capture once you open it in Elements.

To crop to a specific window, take the RECTANGULAR MARQUEE tool and draw around the area you want to use for the screen capture content, then go to the MENU BAR and click IMAGE then choose CROP.
