Step One: Introduction to Your Privacy Page

One web page that's often overlooked when thinking about building a web site is the privacy policy page.

Usually linked to from the very bottom of the main page, this is a page that you use to inform your users about how you plan to deal with their personal information.

The privacy policy needs to contain information that specifies exactly what you (your web site) plan to do with the data you gather from your site visitors.

For example:

When someone comes onto your web site and fills out your opt-in list sign up form, what happens is that their information (name, email, etc) is stored in a customer database that belongs to the autoresponder company you use.

If you use an autoresponder company then you need to specify that in your privacy policy.

Step Two: Creating The Privacy Page

In this section we are going to use a standard privacy policy form, then customize it to suit your specific privacy policy standards.

The information in the privacy policy will be specific to the gathering of information, specifically via the opt-in form(s) on the site and the use of cookies.

Step 2.1: To create the privacy page simply copy the text in the box below by highlighting it, then choosing CTRL and C.

Step 2.2: Now open FirstPage and choose to open the page you have saved in your "My Web Site" folder called "webpage.html"

Step 2.3: When webpage.html is open, you want to SAVE the page immediately as privacy.html

Step 2.4: Now go to the DESIGN mode in FirstPage and highlight ALL the contents on the page, then hit the DELETE key.

Resave the page as privacy.html

Step 2.5: Now hold down the CTRL key and click on the page where you want the policy to appear, then hold down CTRL and V to paste the contents in.

This is what the NON customized page should look like:
