Step One: Finding The Right Stock Photo

Step 1.1: Click the link below to go to the Big Stock Photo site:

http://www.bigstockphoto.com

Step 1.2: Come up with 2 to 4 keywords that describe the image you're seeking and enter them into the search box.

For example, let's say I want to find a photo of someone who's happy.

The keywords I would use to find these images are: person+happy

The problem with using only two keywords is that there are simply too many results. The two keywords below generated a total of 35,952 matches.

To refine my search I am going to add an extra keyword of "excited"

The keywords I am using now are: person+happy+excited

That gives me 1111 matches. Better than 35 thousand but still too many.

To refine my search I am going to add an extra keyword of "jumping"

The keywords I am using now are: person+happy+excited+jumping

Now we've got a very reasonable 97 matches and it's time to sift through the results to see little thumbnail images of each photo.

When the page loads you'll see anywhere from 12 to 36 images on each page.

Step 1.3: Review the stock photos that match your search and when you find one you want to see in more detail, just put your mouse over top of the little thumbnail and you can preview the bigger image automatically:

Step 1.4: If you find an image that's "ALMOST PERFECT" but not quite what you're looking for then what you can do is to search for "SIMILAR IMAGES". To do that just click the image you're looking at now then on the next page you will see this:

When you click SEE SIMILAR, a page opens with images that closely match the one you're looking at and this is a great way to drill right down to the "perfect" image choice.

Step 1.5: When you find an image you want to buy, just click directly on the image itself and that brings up the SIGN UP or LOGIN area.

Step 1.6: If you already have an account with them just enter your login. If you're a new customer then enter your registration information and proceed to login.

The first thing you do (before you can really "order" a photo) is to buy CREDITS. (Most photos that you will use on the web are 1 credit each.)

You will see an image that says "BUY CREDITS" so just click on that and follow the on-screen prompts.

Step 1.7: When you're done purchasing the credits just return to your account and you will find the number of credits in your account has been updated:

What's helpful is that even though you went from selecting a photo all the way through to the "buy credits" process, as long as you're still logged in the photo you initially clicked on will appear on the screen for you!

Step 1.8: Click the DOWNLOAD PHOTO NOW button if you are only going to buy the one image and follow the on-screen prompts. (If you plan to keep looking for more images then choose "ADD TO DOWNLOAD CART".)

Step 1.9: After you click to download the photo you will be asked where you want to save the image, so choose your SAVE IN location and click the SAVE button.

I suggest you save the image to your "MY WEB SITE" folder, inside a new folder you'll create called "stock photos" and that way you'll always have instant access to the stock photos you've bought.

Step Two: Adding the Image To Your Header

Step 2.2:
